Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) is set to offer more specialty feed ingredients through a “strategic collaboration” with Anco, says VP.

The Illinois-based company announced the arrangement with Austria-based, Anco Animal Nutrition Competence GmbH, on Wednesday.

The strategic collaboration is expected to allow both companies the ability to build off experience, said Chuck Loefer, vice president of ADM Animal Nutrition.

“Through this partnership, ADM and Anco can leverage each other’s expertise to offer high-quality products to a wider base of customers on global scale,” he told FeedNavigator.

The deal also was intended to provide producers improved access to the specialty feed ingredients Anco produces, he said at the time.

“By providing our feed manufacturing and premix customers specialty ingredient solutions that help reduce risks of naturally occurring toxins in feed, we can help keep their animals – and their businesses – healthy and productive,” he said.

In addition to the partnership regarding specialty feed ingredients, ADM has made an equity investment in Anco, the company said.

Collaboration, specialty feed details

A portion of the agreement has already started and ADM currently offers some products from the Anco brand to customers in the US, Mexico and Canada, Loefer told us. However, in the future that product line is expected to be expanded to ADM customers in additional locations.

“ADM Animal Nutrition is committed to offering a wide range of innovative products designed to fit its customer’s individual needs,” he said. “Following the launch of ADM’s feed solutions platform, which features Anco FIT products, ADM sought to make an equity investment in Anco as a way to provide producers with greater access to Anco’s range of specialty feed ingredients.”

Currently, the Anco FIT line offered by ADM as part of the platform has products for several species including poultry, the company said. The products include a direct fed microbial and are intended to support high preforming animals facing nutritional stress factors.

The product line was designed to manage gut agility used in a complete feed, reported Anco.

In swine, the products are intended for use to help limit negative stress reactions like reduced appetite and gut integrity, oxidative stress and inflammation, the Austrian company said. While in use with poultry the product has been linked to improved feed intake, and in dairy cattle use is has been tied to improved milk butterfat and protein.

“By leveraging the expertise of both ADM and Anco, this new partnership will help us provide poultry, swine, and cattle producers with a range of high-quality products that contain natural ingredients, such as phytogenics and other compounds, that are carefully selected to help animals adapt to the nutritional stress factors often present in feed rations,” said Michael Eder, Anco managing partner, at the time of the announcement.
