Industry waits for FSMA feed rule details
Industry has not yet had a chance to see what the final FSMA animal feed rule contains despite the fact the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) submitted the data to the Federal Register in accordance with the 30 August timeline.

The final rules under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) are not yet publically available, said FDA officials as it can take several days or longer before the documents are processed and published.

“The FDA is committed to sharing information about the final rules and how food facilities can comply as soon as we are able to do so,” the agency wrote in a release on its website.

The process means that no one in industry has got a chance to read through the new rules, said officials with the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA).

“As of right now, FDA has sent the rules to the office of the Federal Register, which means they met the court-ordered deadline,” the feed trade representatives said. “However, for industry, we still have not seen the rules and must continue to wait an undetermined amount of time until the pre-publication is available for viewing. Once that occurs, we will have a statement to release.”
