EFSA is holding a technical meeting for feed industry stakeholders in Brussels this summer.

The Authority’s Applications Desk (APDESK) Unit, together with the FEED Unit, are hosting the two day session on 14 and 15 July 2016.

“The meeting provides the setting for an exchange of views on scientific issues related to the preparation and the risk assessment of applications for market authorization of feed additives. The event will help to enhance interactions with applicants and stakeholders and increase the understanding of EFSA’s work on regulated products,” said the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

The Parma based risk assessor said the overall aim of the session is to discuss questions on the scientific evaluation of applications related to feed additives in the context of the recently started self-task mandate of its FEEDAP panel to revise its different feed additive risk evaluation guidance documents.

Potential topics could include, said EFSA, the characterization of production strains of additives obtained by microbial fermentation and the assessment of the efficacy of feed additives. “EFSA invites participants to indicate in the registration form any topics they wish to discuss in the meeting other than those included in the draft agenda,” added the Authority.

It said the technical meeting will last two half-days and be organized in a way as to provide for an interactive exchange of expert views.

“Participants have the opportunity to provide feedback on their past experiences in risk assessment of feed additives and discuss future challenges,” said EFSA.
