Evonik is paying €45m for amino acid technology from French group, METEX.

The German chemical firm said the acquisition will expand its leadership in both chemical and fermentation production of amino acids for “animal nutrition and beyond.”

Evonik had signaled earlier this month its interest in acquiring the ‘innovative’ methionine production technology from the Clermont-Ferrrand located producer.

The package it purchased includes the amino acid technology, patents, essential bacteria strains, and the inoLa brand.

The two companies said they are also exploring an R&D collaboration in relation to the development of biotechnologically produced amino acids.
