Live! IPPE 2017 Day 2

From poultry feed and production in China, to help meeting new US feed safety regulation, IPPE covers a wide range of topics for the feed industry.

This year’s International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) is set to involve more than 1,200 exhibitors and 30,000 visitors from multiple countries, said event organizers.

The expo is sponsored by the America Feed Industry Association (AFIA), the North American Meat Institute (NAMI) and the US Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY). It runs through February 2 and takes place in Atlanta, Georgia.

In addition to the trade show portion, all three organizations offer their own educational tracts.

For feed producers the show offers a look at industry trends, like a focus on animal welfare, environmental awareness and consumer perception of feed ingredients along with training aimed at helping industry members meet new federal regulations like the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

This year’s show again offered AFIA training on FSMA, this time with a look at using a new tool for AFIA members that’s been designed with the University of Minnesota to aid in conducting a hazard analysis, said the association.

“The tool developed by the University of Minnesota helps identify the severity and probability of hazards that could affect animal food facilities and will aid firms to mitigate their risks from these hazards,” said Richard Sellers, AFIA senior vice president of public policy and education. “The training is hands-on, helping facilities take that knowledge and incorporate it in to their facility-specific hazard analysis.”
