Within weeks of the acquisitions of feed production facilities in Spain and Indonesia, Dutch animal feed company, De Heus, has purchased one of the largest players in the Polish market.

The Polish feed player in question, Golpasz, has an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons.

De Heus Poland has eight feed factories spread across the country. A spokesperson told us that this latest deal brings its total compound feed production capacity in that market to 1,700,000 tons.

Golpasz offers a range of compound feeds for multiple animal categories, including turkey, broilers, pigs, beef and dairy cattle. The feed manufacturer has highly specialized knowledge in the area of turkey nutrition, which De Heus said particularly appealed.

The 52-year-old Polish company has four production sites, in Golub, Janowiec, Podkonice and Radomin, all located close to major livestock farming regions.

This latest acquisition also provides De Heus with an entry point into the broader Central Eastern European region.

The transaction is still subject to approval from the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.

On the asset trail

The deal can be said to consolidate the Netherlands headquartered group’s position as one of the world’s leading feed producers, and one that has been hitting the asset trail hard in the past few weeks.

Mid-June, De Heus announced that it bought up Piensos Muga in Spain, which has an annual capacity of 80,000 tons, giving it an extensive network of feed production facilities in Spain and bolstering its ambition to become a dominant feed player on the Iberian Peninsula.

In early June, it acquired two production plants in Indonesia from ADM, which were the compound feed operations of Neovia in that market, namely PT Welgro Feedmill and PT Wirifa Sakti. The acquired business comprises two feed mills located in West-Java and East-Java.

And, in another M&A deal, in March this year, De Heus acquired Brazilian cattle nutrition company, Cerrado Nutrição Animal, located in Itaberaí, in the state of Goiás.
