Lenaïg Richard-Breivik, a seasoned Skretting executive, has joined Corbion Health and Nutrition as business development manager for aquaculture.

With 13 years at Nutreco's fish and shrimp feed division, Richard-Breivik held prominent roles in R&D, product management, marketing, and business development.

Her expertise spans shrimp and fish nutrition, precision feeding, and innovation management, backed by a PhD in shrimp nutrition.

Corbion reported that in this new role, she will focus on expanding its algae-based omega-3 product, grown via a closed fermentation system using sugarcane, in the global aquaculture market.

Additionally, Bart Boomsma returns to the Dutch food and biochemicals company as business development manager for animal nutrition, focusing on expanding Corbion’s algae business in the pet and livestock sectors.

Boomsma, who previously worked with Corbion from 2009 to 2015, brings extensive experience in technical sales, product management, and animal health, gained through roles at Palital Feed Additives and Animal Health Vision (AHV).

Growth strategy

Last year we heard how Corbion is building on the success of its algae-based omega-3 product, AlgaPrime DHA, in the aquaculture market by targeting the growing pet food sector.

The company highlighted AlgaPrime DHA as a sustainable alternative to marine-based omega-3s, helping meet global demand for fatty acids while reducing pressure on wild fish stocks.

With increasing demand for omega-3 in premium pet food to support cognitive and cardiovascular health in pets, Corbion Algae Ingredients president, Ruud Peerbooms, outlined how the company set about tailoring its product specifically for this market.

The producer has also been investing in its algae fermentation facility in Orindiuva, Brazil to ensure process optimization. Its facility is strategically located among sugar cane fields in Brazil and next door to a sugar cane mill. Microalgae are grown in closed fermentation tanks where they transform the sugars into algae containing omega-3-rich biomass.
