The safety and efficacy of an additive comprising partially microencapsulated essential oils from thyme and star anise, dried herbs and dried spices, has been backed by EFSA.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) said Delacon’s Biostrong 510 product is safe and has the potential to be efficacious for broilers at the proposed conditions of use. This conclusion, said the FEEDAP panel, can be extended to layers and extrapolated to all minor poultry species for fattening and reared to point of lay.

The additive had not been previously authorised in the EU.

“The EFSA opinion, an independent expert review of diverse studies submitted by Delacon, underlines that Biostrong 510 is a science-based product – efficacy was proven on both improved zootechnical performance and better nutrient digestion,” said the company.
