Dutch processing equipment manufacturer, Dinnissen, has redesigned its Hamex hammer mill, which has automatic sieve exchange.

The company unveiled the improved piece of machinery at the VICTAM 2019 feed technology trade show in Cologne last month.

Perry Konings, commercial manager, Dinnissen, told us about the redesign of the Hamex hammer mill, which was originally launched in 2014.

“The machines have been running up to now without problems, no extra wear on bearings, etc. It is a very good machine. However, at Dinnissen, innovation is part of our DNA, we optimize all the time. We do that with all our machines, and so we [optimized] this hammer mill as well, we've added some extra features on the Hamex.”

The way the hammer mill itself is manufactured is now highly automated, a development that results in a substantial reduction in its price. In addition, various ergonomic aspects of the machine have been amended to both improve user friendliness and speed of screen changes, he said.

Noise reduction

Noise reduction is another of the new features, an enhancement that benefits the operators, said Konings. This reduction was achieved by the fact that the freely suspended hammers in the redesigned Hamex rotate at a speed of 1,500 RPM in the milling chamber, he explained.

In terms of other enhancements, the renovated hammer mill’s screen can now be slid out of the machine sideways meaning that parts are quickly reachable and can be easily changed. In addition, the Hamex has large inspection hatches that offer fast and easy access for inspection, cleaning and maintenance of the relevant components, he said.

An additional feature is that plant managers can have a view of how the hammer mill is functioning in real time, but at a distance, using a smart phone or tablet, and they can liaise with the operator remotely should any malfunctioning occur, said Konings.

The enhanced Hamex is also fitted with a stone trap and a magnet that separate hard objects and magnetic particles from the product being processed. This helps to prevent product contamination and screen damage. It is also possible to choose a specially developed airflow system that quickly and efficiently regulates the transport of particles of the correct size. This increases the capacity and reduces energy consumption, added the manufacturer.
