Omya has acquired Prima Inter-Chem, a distributor of ingredients and specialty chemicals in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Omya, a Swiss producer of industrial minerals – mainly derived from calcium carbonate, dolomite and perlite – and a worldwide distributor of specialty chemicals, said the deal boosts and develops its distribution capabilities in those Asian markets for the food, pharmaceutical, and animal feed industries, among others.

In addition, the Oftringen, Switzerland based company said the acquisition will give it a platform for growth in the wider Asia-Pacific region, and the deal continues its history of acquiring complementary businesses.

A major distributor of chemicals, excipients, ingredients, and additives, Prima Inter-Chem was established in 1984. It is headquartered in Selangor, near Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia, and has offices and warehouses in Shah Alam, Penang and Johor, Malaysia as well as in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It has 600 customers spread throughout those regions.

Prima Inter-Chem's feed industry targeted portfolio is extensive: from vitamins and enzymes to chelated minerals and probiotics, essential oils, organic acids, vital wheat gluten and corn gluten meal to feed pigments and other raw materials and ingredients.

Omya also works with the feed industry, with animal nutritionists. The company is focused on the development of products aimed at improving the welfare and productivity of farmed animals. "We have formulated our range of feed additives with leading scientists to manage issues such as acidosis in dairy cattle and thin-shelled eggs in laying hens."

The mineral feed supplement manufacturer has a pet food ingredient range as well.
