The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) has named Quality Liquid Feeds’ (QLF) Comstock Park, Michigan based-plant as the 2022 Liquid Feed Facility of the Year (FFY) award winner.

Gary Huddleston, AFIA’s director of feed manufacturing and regulatory affairs, commented on the prize: “QLF’s Comstock Park liquid feed facility is best in class for the industry, with well-documented standard operating procedures and training programs. Their work has led to experienced and engaged employees who play a critical role in ensuring the safe manufacture of quality liquid feed for beef and dairy producers.”

Constructed in 2014, the Michigan liquid feed facility produces approximately 75,000 tons of feed annually, specializing in suspensions for beef and dairy cattle. The facility comprises three mixers for increased efficiency and abundant finished feed storage, allowing for continued growth in the future.

This is the third time a QLF facility has won the Liquid Feed Facility of the Year award.

The US trade group also recognized several semi-finalists, including QLF’s plants in Wellsville, Ohio, in Clovis, New Mexico and in LaSalle, Illinois.

The AFIA has been recognizing excellence in US feed manufacturing through its feed facility of the year program since 1985, with 2021 marking the first year that the association began issuing top industry awards to facilities in four categories: commercial dry, liquid feed, premix and ingredient, and integrator.

PeforMix Nutrition Systems’ facility in Rupert Idaho was the 2021 winner of the AFIA’s liquid feed facility award. That manufacturing site generates approximately 56,000 tons of feed annually, primarily for beef and dairy cattle.
