French animal nutrition and health specialists, the CCPA Group, has become the majority shareholder in Turkish business, Beta Tarim, which is involved in the manufacture of premixes for ruminants and poultry.

Located in Izmir, Turkey, Beta Tarim started its activities in 2001.

The CCPA Group, which is run from Brittany, said the move is closely aligned with its international development strategy and follows 10 years of close collaboration between the two companies. The new entity will be called CCPA Turkey.

Investment rationale

Beta Tarim is quite active in terms of direct selling of products and services to farmers, B2F sales, said Laurent Roger, sales director, CCPA Group.

So the objective of its investment in the Turkish business is to make greater inroads into the selling of products and services to feed millers and integrators in that market, the B2B side of the business there.

“We want to better serve the animal nutrition sector overall in Turkey, but we [particularly] want to reinforce our position in B2B activities there," he told FeedNavigator.

To scale up those activities then, he said CCPA Turkey intends to invest in people, to boost its B2B technical and commercial services and approach in order gain greater traction with feed millers and integrators.

We need a dedicated team and dedicated services for B2B focused activities, we need to hire people, a nutritionist for the poultry business, for example,” said Roger.

Beta Tarim is strong in ruminants, given the dynamism in the Turkish dairy sector, but CCPA Turkey will look to strengthen the poultry side, he stressed.

“We believe we can bring added value to Turkish broiler and layer producers.”

Turkey has 570 feed mills, according to the 2019 Alltech Global Feed Survey. Feed production came in at 25.5 million metric tons last year, with dairy feed taking up the greatest percentage of that, with broiler feed next, followed by layer feed.

Local teams

The employees and the founder of Beta Tarim, Ali Ozbek, will be retained, added Roger.

“Ali Ozbek is best placed to lead the next phase of the CCPA Turkey business. He will stay on as general director, leading the local teams.”

The CCPA group, with headquarters in Janzé, France, has 350 employees, and subsidiaries in a raft of countries including Portugal, Spain, Czech Republic, Asia, Brazil, Mexico, and Algeria. It reported turnover of €163m for 2018.
